Hot Stone Reflexology

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF HOT STONE TREATMENTS

Hot stone therapy is becoming ever more popular. Hot stone reflexology combines the benefits of an intensive reflexology treatment with hot stones (and cold stones if you wish, these can be excellent for reducing congestion.) for a relaxing and deeply rejuvenating full body treatment.

Experience how the heat from the stones quickly opens the reflex pathways to make this treatment extremely relaxing and by working on the Reflex points of the feet, your whole body will feel restored, balanced and rejuvenated.

Whilst the feet are worked, hot stones are placed around the body to induce complete relaxation (without the need to undress), activating energy points and stimulating drainage, leaving your mind clear and offering effective long-term benefits to body and spirit.

A Hot Stone Reflexology treatment takes about 45 minutes .

HOW THE STONES ARE USED IN A HOT STONE REFLEXOLOGY TREATMENT

Because the warmth of the stones opens the energy pathways, it is estimated that one stroke with a stone is worth five strokes with the hand. Thus Hot Stone Therapy is calculated to be five times deeper and last five times longer than a conventional treatment with the hands alone!

The best Black Basalt (lava) stones are used to heat & soothe aching muscles. Cold stones can also be used to cool the muscles and heal.

The heat from the stones increases the relaxation response and increases healing through improved blood flow and circulation.

Various size hot stones are placed on specific areas of the body. The stones are kept at a comfortable temperature and are never too hot.

The reflexology treatment itself will be carried out with a number of different sized smaller stones which will enable me to work deep into the reflexes utilising the individual characteristics of the stones. The aim is for you to not be aware of the stones themselves but just experience the touch of my hands and the warmth that the stones impart. It is quite a different experience to a “usual” reflexology treatment!

HISTORY OF HOT STONE TREATMENTS

This is both a new and an ancient therapy! The revival in hot stone treatments began in the 1990s when the “La Stone® ” therapy first became popular. Now it is one of the fastest growing therapies in Europe.

However, Native Americans have been using hot stones since ancient times as part of a hot stone massage treatment in their sweat lodge ceremonies. There is also evidence of the use of hot stones in many other ancient civilisations such as Egypt, China, Japan, Africa, South America, Australia and the Polynesian islands.
