My name is Jenny and I grew up in Kent, moving to Hertfordshire 20 years ago where I have lived in Welwyn Garden City, Stevenage and now Stotfold for the past 9 years.
I have always been interested in meditation and spirituality, but a turning point came for me when I visited a Spa in Leicestershire some years ago and experienced a fantastic Reiki treatment. To be honest, I didn’t really know what I was letting myself in for. It just sounded interesting in the treatment booklet and I thought I’d give it a go – so I found Reiki completely by accident!
It was a real “Eureka!” moment for me. Emotion that I had carried around for 17 years was effortlessly dissolved, and I felt much lighter and brighter as a result. I also saw amazing colours and had an out of body experience – something I now know is quite rare, although not unheard of. Although I always see beautiful colours both when receiving and giving treatments, I think my first experience of Reiki was the most powerful I’ve ever had. I now think that this was meant to happen to ensure that I would go on to learn Reiki and share it with other people. On my return home I sought a suitable teacher and found one in Taggart King of Reiki Evolution, an internationally renowned school with which I completed all 3 levels of Reiki from Reiki 1 to Master Teacher. I have never looked back.
Reiki has been a wonderfully positive force in my life, making subtle changes to my attitudes and responses to life’s experiences. Looking back I can see how much I’ve changed and how much happier I am in my life now. Reiki can work in some strange ways, and at the time we may fight against it, but it is always for our highest good. For instance, I have known people who have broken up with partners, changed jobs, moved house etc which might seem traumatic events, but these were changes they needed to make in their lives, Reiki just gave them the strength and will to do so. Similarly, there are people whose relationships have improved and grown as a result of Reiki, and I like to think I fall into this group! I think I appreciate my husband more these days and I’ve certainly stopped trying to change him! I’ve come to accept we can only ever change ourselves.
It seemed a natural progression to go on to learn other therapies, and to date I have added Indian Head Massage and Reflexology including a course in hot stone reflexology to my skills.
The course I undertook for reflexology was with The Margaret Corbishley School, accredited by the Association of Reflexologists, (for full details see www.aor.org.uk ) a nationally recognised body and one that is fighting for national standards and continuous professional development.
Some people think that touching other people’s feet is unpleasant, but I can honestly say that I find it a very rewarding thing to do. Most of us don’t appreciate our feet and don’t look after them as well as we might. Giving massage and working the reflexes of the feet, feeling the imbalances and helping bring the body back into balance, feels a wonderful thing to do for someone. It is also lovely to receive as it is highly relaxing and many of my clients have fallen asleep during treatment!
For 2009 I have decided to start offering training in both Reiki 1 and 2, which I’m very excited about. Reiki is very dear to my heart and I feel both delighted and privileged to be able to share this beautiful system with you. When you are attuned to the reiki energy, you have a permanent connection to reiki which is able to work on you 24 hours a day and can bring real changes in your life on many levels. Please see the Reiki Training page for more information.
I hope you enjoy the header images on this site, which were all provided by my sister, Christina Burrows, who is a brilliant digital photographer and has recently set up her own website www.whitstablephotos.com and has had several successful exhibitions in Whitstable, Kent. My thanks to her for allowing me to “steal” some of my favourites to use here!
